THE BIG ISSUE STYLE MODEL (COVER)
With the close-up framing of Declan McKenna on this cover, there is no there focus in the photography, making him the sole focus of the piece, drawing the reader's eyes to the miseducating-en-scene surrounding and supporting him, like his wardrobe and makeup. Though, I do plan on incorporating flowers as a prop in my second issue to support the feminine theming of my main story, I am interested in incorporating subtle makeup in order to enhance a fluidity of gender representations in my photography. Though I am limited in resources due to Covid-19, this would be an easily added addition to make the mise-en-scene more interesting and deep in meaning regarding the article.
furthermore, the presence of glitter around the eye and waterline eyeliner draws attention to the eyes and it something I'd like to incorporate into my first issue. This draws upon the intertextuality of Euphoria from both the TV-show and the TikTok trend, both identifiable to the audience being targetted because even if they haven't seen the show, they can draw upon the significance and meaning it has created across social media.
For my second issue, I very much want to draw upon the bright colours incorporated into the house style of this particular issue, the blue/teal background being something I can easily incorporate naturally from home without cropping and photoshopping it in, in order to adhere to the naturalist mise-en-scene of flowers surrounding the model in my issue.
